By definition, the term “TWILIGHT” may be defined as the dusky light coming from the sky during the hours of the early nightfall or early break of day. This occurs at the moment that the sun is beneath the horizon and its light is refracted. The term has been particularly popularized in the novel series “TWILIGHT.” The reason behind the use of the term in the worldly popularized novel-turned-Hollywood movie “TWILIGHT” may be attributed to the myth that vampires are killed or get severely injured due to extreme exposure to sunlight; hence, twilight serves as a refuge for these character types.
The “TWILIGHT” movie is where characters like EDWARD CULLEN, Bella Swan, the most-feared clan Volturi have become part of the moviegoers’ psyche since the books became bestseller and then movies had grossed billions in the local scene and internationally. They would talk about the series endlessly and they would rave about the exceptional abilities and captivating beauty the characters embody and how these extraordinary individuals are spellbound by the simple and plain characteristics of an ordinary human in the person of Bella Swan. Unexpectedly, the cheesy film, as some individuals particularly “True Blood” fans would refer to it, had turned out to be a phenomenal blockbuster movie not only in the United States but all over the world.
Evidently, not everyone is a fan of the “TWILIGHT” saga, much less the series “Vampire Chronicles” by Anne Rice, or “True Blood” where overpowering characterizations of VAMPIRES personalities such as LESTAT de LIONCOURT had emerged. Some may believe that other renowned series enjoyed by a lot of VAMPIRES fanatics has been outshined in terms of popularity and commercialization by the overrated, teenage flick “TWILIGHT” series. Apparently, VAMPIRES seem the latest thing these days. Audiences like and speak passionately about them. At a certain extent, the VAMPIRES, be fictional as they actually are, feed people’s aspiration to be extraordinary or uniquely wonderful through other means. The series of stories about VAMPIRES come out to epitomize a standard of attractiveness many only could wish for. It poses as idyllic so far-off from people’s affairs each day that its archetypes seem to belong with other species not from this plane.
Not since LESTAT de LIONCOURT was portrayed by Tom Cruise in “Interview with the Vampire” some years back had this characterization been familiarized among movie goers. VAMPIRES in both novels and movies have predisposed a lot of audiences to get fascinated with these species backgrounds and depiction in films especially when portrayed by princely characters like EDWARD CULLEN, LESTAT de LIONCOURT, Dracula, among others. In close observation, it would appear that the character of EDWARD CULLEN is to some extent founded on the eccentric portrayal of LESTAT de LIONCOURT.
On the whole, these types of movies about VAMPIRES particularly “TWILIGHT”, and characters like EDWARD CULLEN and LESTAT de LIONCOURT have demonstrated that in some other means people ingeniously have the ability to create a hidden world through fantasy and fiction. Stories about VAMPIRES appear to go through an interminable cycle of demise and resurgence, increasingly becoming powerful with every succeeding manifestation.
