Are you infected?

Having spent time online these days, hackers and so-called viruses as well as spammers and phishing attacks towards various personal site users are prevalent. They blog! They tweet! Or send links! Apart from pop-ups and fake security warnings, these have become common incidents in cyber space. Previously, celebrities and popular personalities including accounts corresponding to companies and businesses are mostly hounded. However, it seems apparent that they impinge on regular personal sites as well.
A friend of mine with a business site within a very popular social media had encountered warns of messages bringing about bogus log-in pages that came a few days following attack. This had caused for various spams sent from compromised accounts. Initially, she wasn’t aware that she had been sounding off numerous various newsfeeds every so often. I knew then it wasn’t her. I advised her to change her password. Consequently, this complicated the situation since she also reported to the site security the fact she had been a victim of phishing spammers that may utilize personal financial accounts and connections. The social network acted on the matter so vehemently that even she herself couldn’t access her profile. In the face of a stressful situation relating to the blocked access to a community site involving an income-generating corner in cyberspace. She had looked for ways to address the problem and communicated continuously with the “Help Center,” even to the extent of considering the usage of watchdog security, just to regain access to her business profile. Fortunately, she did. There was no way that she would consider giving up her site after all the hard work and network she generated through it and the numerous clienteles in the offing.
Apart from the importance of having a good password manager or bullet-proof anti-virus solution, changing passwords regularly and making use of different passwords for different personal sites are advantageous to prevent spammers and hackers to take over one’s social network sites.
